The West Virginia University Physicians of Charleston is the multi-specialty group practice of faculty physicians and health care providers at the West Virginia University Charleston Division School of Medicine.

West Virginia University Physicians of Charleston group members provide world-class medical care while conducting groundbreaking research and continuing education at one of the nation’s oldest regional medical education campuses. Our physicians are recognized leaders in their chosen specialties.

Driven by the motto “We practice what we teach,” our physicians and health care providers training never ends because they are in the classroom and in the laboratory, training the next generation of healthcare providers.

Through its affiliation with Charleston Area Medical Center as its teaching hospital, WVU’s Charleston Division educates over 500 students, researches in over 400 areas, hospitalizes over 40,000 patients, and treats over 200,000 outpatients. Our services reach over 25 counties on any given day. Because of this important collaboration with CAMC, patients benefit from a synergy of resources that provide excellence in care. Area physicians’ ability to provide care is enhanced by the educational and consulting services available and new physicians are trained to provide outstanding, comprehensive health care while contributing to the scientific basis of medicine.

Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry
The West Virginia University Physicians of Charleston, Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatric Clinic and Training Center is located in the CAMC Heart and Vascular Center attached to CAMC Hospital – Memorial Division. It is comprised of the WVU Faculty (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner) as well as trainees in the various fields of mental health.

Our mission is to provide excellent assessment and treatment of adults and children with psychiatric illnesses, emotional problems, and behavioral disorders while simultaneously providing the community with the next generation of highly trained mental health professionals. We offer a wide range of evidence based psychiatric, psychological, and neuropsychological services. Restoring your mental well being and satisfaction is our goal. It is our aspiration to improve our professional knowledge and skills through scholarly pursuit.

Family Medicine
Through educational affiliations with West Virginia University, West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, University of Charleston and other health professional schools, the CAMC Family Medicine Center serves as a teaching facility for medical and allied health students. In fact, with more than 40 years of experience in the training of WVU medical students and CAMC resident physicians, CAMC’s affiliation with WVU makes it the oldest regional medical education campus in the United States. This collaboration gives patients access to a synergy of resources that result in excellent care for the entire family.

CAMC’s status as a teaching hospital also helps the Family Medicine Center remain at the forefront of top quality care. Our board-certified attending physicians, our resident physicians, and our professional and caring staff bring a wealth of experience for providing a family-focused program. Our physicians have access to the best medical and collaborative resources, while new physicians are trained to provide outstanding, comprehensive care as they contribute to the scientific basis of medicine.

Internal Medicine
The Department of Internal Medicine of West Virginia University- Charleston Division provides a vibrant and stimulating environment that fosters the intellectual, personal and professional growth of students, residents, faculty and staff. Our ever changing medical landscape makes for a challenging and exciting arena to improve our educational processes, clinical care and research opportunities.

Excellent Education, Research and Clinical Care is provided daily on the Charleston Campus of West Virginia University and our strategic partner Charleston Area Medical Center. Our mission is to provide service for today, teaching for tomorrow and research for the future of all West Virginians.

Obstetrics and Gynecology
The West Virginia University Physicians of Charleston Obstetrics and Gynecology Department is committed to providing quality, gentle and compassionate Women’s Healthcare to each of our patients. Caring for patients along life’s pathway from adolescence through menopause and everywhere in between is not only our specialty but our commitment. We have School fo Medicine Clinical Faculty specialists in the areas of pediatric and adolescent care, Obstetrical care both routine and high risk, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Gynecologic Oncology. Gynecologic care encompasses uro-gynedology, pelvic reconstruction, and minimally invasive surgery including both single port and robotics. Among our surgeons are nationally recognized teaching proctors.

As Faculty members of the WVU School of Medicine, Charleston Division we take great pride in teaching future physicians and live by the motto, “We practice what we teach.”

Pediatrics
The West Virginia University Physicians of Charleston Pediatrics Office maintains a reputation for excellence in pediatric care. Our award winning pediatricians and nurse practitioners offer your children expert, comprehensive care. With specialists in pediatric cardiology, endocrinology, infectious disease, nephrology, pulmonology and surgery, we are committed to developing compassionate and trusted relationships with our families in a warm and friendly environment.

Our adolescent medicine specialist is an expert in the special needs of teen’s in dealing with their growing and changing bodies, and as full members of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) our hematology/oncology team understands that when a child has cancer, the entire family becomes part of the treatment process.

Surgery
The West Virginia University Physicians of Charleston Surgery Department is dedicated to the highest levels of patient care, professional education and clinical and translational research. We offer innovative surgical procedures, state-of-the-art technology, and high-quality patient care for surgical management of common and complex surgical diseases.

Our team of board certified and fellowship trained Vascular and Endovascular surgeons have gained local, national and international reputations for their contributions to the field of vascular surgery and medicine and have produced a series of landmark research studies that have had an enormous impact on how vascular procedures are conducted, benefitting thousands of patients. Our goal is to work continually to provide excellent care and improve the quality of life for our patients with vascular disease.

Our board certified, fellowship trained, general surgeons provide specialty services in the areas of minimally invasive surgery, weight loss surgery, surgical oncology and colon & rectal surgery. The broad perspective of our team makes us uniquely qualified to provide accurate diagnosis and individualized surgical management of common and unusual surgical problems.

Our team of board certified and fellowship trained Vascular and Endovascular surgeons have gained local, national and international reputations for their contributions to the field of vascular surgery and medicine and have produced a series of landmark research studies that have had an enormous impact on how vascular procedures are conducted, benefitting thousands of patients. Our goal is to work continually to provide excellent care and improve the quality of life for our patients with vascular disease.

We have the largest fellowship trained Pediatric Surgical group in the state providing services 24-hours a day providing comprehensive care to infants, children and adolescents. We offer minimally invasive surgery techniques with state of the art equipment which minimizes the pain and speeds the recovery for our patients.

Our Trauma and Surgical Critical care provide specialty services to CAMC’s Level 1 Trauma Center in emergency and acute care surgery. The broad perspective of our team makes us uniquely qualified to provide accurate diagnosis and individualized surgical management of common and unusual surgical problems.

Working closely with the Department’s academic partner, West Virginia University School of Medicine, and affiliate hospital, CAMC, we pioneer and refine surgical procedures to enable us to provide evidenced based, compassionate care to our patients who require services in a wide range of surgical specialties.
